Towards self

In my work, I wanted to combine two areas – music and sculpture. My degree piece consisted of figurative sculpture and performance.

I covered a self-portrait made of old sponge with layers, each of which seemed less and less like a human. During the degree examination, I stripped off these layers singing an intuitive song, revealing the self-portrait within. The layers symbolized the accretions, the shell that forms in us when we do not reach for our own sensitivity, when we shut out ourselves and others. I sometimes feel something like that. In getting rid of this monster, I find singing the most helpful. Singing exposes me and my emotions, because it flows directly from the inside of my body. It reflects the state of my spirit. First of all, in this work, I wanted to share my attempt to reach sensitivity, to face myself so as to feel freed from my mask.
