Life and Music of Sister Rosetta Tharpe / See You Next Time

Life and Music of Sister Rosetta Tharpe is a book combining elements of biography, songbook, photo album and prayer book, a tribute to the legendary blues guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe, also called the rock’n’roll godmother and a memory of her. Rhythmic typographic arrangements have been inspired by roadside church signs and American songbooks from the era. Tharpe was one of the first women playing the electric guitar, she was also a groundbreaking artist, mixing religious gospel music with secular blues and R&B. The book and a series of posters were printed in black and white, in risograph technique. The book is accompanied by the so-called merch, or a set of gadgets – t-shirts, bags, a series of matchboxes and a blanket. “See you next time” is in most cases the last sentence uttered from the stage by the band towards the audience at the end of a concert, stimulating the fans’ imagination and raising a lot of unanswered questions, sometimes a blank promise or a spark of hope. See You Next Time is a newspaper full of unexplained lust for adventure, nighttime listening to music, morning flights, huge unnecessary knowledge about bands, travels, emptied credit cards, dedication, sleeping in the street, dehydration, queues and finally concerts. It is also a coverage of concert tours and an attempt to get to know the secret of the boundless love of fans to musicians.
